Honestly, I’m not even going to try and make sense of what was obviously an attempted terrorist attack at RAF Fairford a few days ago.
I mean, the UK authorities can’t seem to do that either, and the story keeps getting weirder and weirder by the hour. Everybody with a functioning pre-frontal lobe knows the ever-changing portrayal is not as it seems.
Even the Americans – who use the base for their B-1 bombers to fly missions to Iran – are more aware of what’s really going on than anyone in the UK will own up to. Both Marco Rubio and Donald Trump have already unwittingly demonstrated that there is way more to this than meets the British eye.
Just to recap, five men were arrested on suspicion of explosive offences and later terrorism charges. The incident triggered a major security response and raised alarm on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as claims of Iran’s involvement.
The dark, swarthy-looking young men who were captured were quickly released on bail to the amazement and consternation of just about anybody with a pulse, yet the investigation remains ongoing.
Even the local farmer who rang the police to report unusual activity has now been beaten to the punch by one of the suspects apparently dobbing himself – and his cohorts – in first. So say the police. And the same police, upon releasing them on bail, were at pains to describe them as British nationals, which only serves to show just how cheap and easy that title is to obtain these days.
Anyway, as this story continues to shakily unfold, and we’ll all likely have to rely on the Americans to spill the beans, I’d like to just say that I’ve discovered who I want to be when I grow up. Alex Phillips is a TalkTV presenter who plunged into an epic, furious rant aimed squarely at the UK’s Defence Secretary Wes Streeting. The man you see her ranting to on screen was not Streeting but Michael Shoebridge, a defence and national security expert.
I’ll leave you in Alex’s capable hands, and my sincere hope is that every TV presenter in that fair land, and ours, was as openly and splendidly pissed off.
