You could at least say sorry

By Peter Williams

The Prime Minister has a cheek doesn’t he. He said on Monday that there was no compulsory Covid-19 vaccination. People, he said, made their own choices. Yesterday he doubled down.

Now let’s cut him the tiniest little bit of slack. What he says is technically correct, although if he had things his way it would definitely have been compulsory.

Remember he was the guy who said that “they” would go looking for the unvaccinated. Something tells me he may have even used the phrase “we will hunt you down.”

But he is really splitting hairs by invoking the use of the word “compulsory.” Yes, nobody was forced to – as in being physically taken in for jabbing. But the mandates in so many jobs meant that you couldn’t stay in work if you weren’t vaccinated.

It was despicable coercion of the highest order, so let’s call it a virtual compulsion. Hipkins really was quite vile when he made that assertion a couple of days ago because he must know that many, many people lost jobs and careers because of the mandates imposed by their employers, both public and private.

The least he could have done was apologise for what they did. But you know what – I don’t think he and they, as in the Labour Party,  are sorry.

In many respects I almost wish I’d stayed on at Mediaworks instead of resigning – it’s two years ago this week – and had a showdown with management over the mandate they brought in about a week after I left.

But Hipkins’ insistence on there being no compulsion is bordering on fiction in the minds of thousands of us. The arrogance and rejection of people’s rights as displayed by Jacinda Ardern’s admission of two classes of people, and then Hipkins saying words to the effect of “we will hunt you down” make this Labour leadership the most personally despised of any political party in my lifetime.

They were at 24 percent in the Roy Morgan poll yesterday. I don’t think they’ve hit the bottom yet.

They deserve everything coming to them.

I find it gob smacking that there is still 24% of the population that would still vote for them. Where are these people? I haven’t met anyone in recent times that still thinks Labour is doing a good job. Chris Hipkins is not very smart. I hated Jacinda Ardern but she was way smarter than Chippy.

my sentiments as well alla. I will not be satisfied with a “win” in the upcoming election. labour needs to suffer such a profound loss, that even they will have to acknowledge their complete and utter incompetence, and hopefully put to bed forever their extreme left wing/communist agenda and ideological policies.

Compulsory? Not compulsory ? Thats the distraction from the crime : the blatant violation of the foundation of international human rights law – the Nuremberg Code.
“ The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential .
….free power of choice without any element of force duress or other ulterior form of constraint or coercion …. “

I agree with both Alla and Michael, however IMO they knew what it was about, and were obeying higher orders. It was a criminal act and they need to held to account for these actions, A lifetime in jail sentence is too lenient and there is only one other option after that…………

I don’t think you can call anyone who is so steeped in ideology, smart. Cindy was able to convey the party line convincingly, but she has not had an original thought since she was 15.

My sentiments exactly – I’m surprised Labour has the level support they do after the lies and last few years…. But not everyone is well informed or can think critically. As for politicians being smart… well goodness is every bit as important as smartness in a politician,. I’d rather have smart and good than smart and evil. Honestly would be a novel and admirable quality I’m sure we’d all like to see more of.

I agree so much for what you say…. The arrogance of this lot made me leave my job and the country … I really cannot even understand how a literate person, with a sensible brain, could even vote for them

Unfortunately I think that Labour are sacrificing themselves as part of the agenda to get National voted in this election. It's “good cop v bad cop” strategy and all planned…

    PUBLICLY THREATENED
I still feel like we (the public) were threatened by Hipkins when he said “we will hunt you down” and it should have gone straight to the police to investigate. He was inciting a threat on people, is that not an offence these days?

What I find worrying is that I don’t see that the Nats or Act are really any different. They didn’t come out from the B/hive to meet with & talk to protestors & apparently signed an agreement not too ?
I wasn’t v’d & was told , in writing, my job would be terminated, by a certain date if I wasn’t

It's all very well getting rid of Labour but the Greens must be destroyed too if we are to have a chance of getting NZ back on the right path.
