It’s Waitangi Day. I know a lot of Kiwis are sick of it and think it’s become toxic and divisive. But Maori protests and the Treaty gravy train really aren’t the biggest threat to New Zealand. The biggest threat is mass immigration. It threatens to replace REAL New Zealanders – the British settlers and Maori that together forged this nation – with ethnically and culturally different peoples from India, China and elsewhere.

A nation is not its geography. Nor is it its institutions, laws or system of government. A nation is its people: replace the people and you have erased the nation.

New Zealand is a young nation. If we take its beginning as 1840 at the signing of the Treaty, at that time the population was around 80,000 Maori and 2,000 Europeans. Subsequent decades saw significant immigration from Britain and a reduction in the Maori population owing to deaths mainly from introduced diseases. By the time of the 1901 Census the British settler population had reached 772,719 and the Maori population had fallen to 48,683 – 94% European and 6% Maori. This demographic makeup remained roughly the same until the latter two decades of the 20th century.

Most Kiwis perhaps don’t know this, but for most of our history, our government had a deliberate policy of keeping New Zealand majority White. But beginning after the 1960’s, a series of deliberate decisions were made to undo our unofficial “White New Zealand” policy and instead make us multicultural. Our immigration laws were revamped to focus on “skills” rather than race or ethnicity. First Pacific Islanders began to appear in larger numbers, then Chinese, Indians and others began to flood in.

In 1974 New Zealand Europeans made up approximately 88% of the population, Maori had expanded to almost 9%, Pacific Islanders were just 2% of the population and Asians 1%.

But by 2023 New Zealand Europeans were a mere 55.9% of the population, Maori 15.5%, Asian 15.7%, Pacific Islanders 5.5%, and 7.4% other. The white population is now in freefall, Maori have been overtaken by Asians as the second biggest ethnicity, and over a quarter of the population are not from the founding groups…a quantum that is growing exponentially.

This, I submit to you, is madness. We are losing our country…and we should put an immediate stop to it.

The coalition government has made a start – reducing net immigration down to around 10,000 per year from the over 100,000 it averaged under the Ardern/Hipkins government. However, it’s not enough. The net figure hides the fact that large numbers of Kiwi citizens are leaving, and being replaced by immigrants from India, China and the Philippines. Ethnic replacement continues, but at a slower rate.

I propose a radical revamp of our immigration policy. Instead of becoming progressively less Kiwi year-by-year, we should aim to restore our traditional demographics, and become MORE Kiwi over time.

This is easier to accomplish than you might think. Immigrants who have recently moved into the country are more likely to move out again. If we merely stop the flows coming in, by reducing the gross 130,000 we bring in per year down closer to zero, then due to immigrants departing, the demographics will begin moving in the right direction. But there are other steps we should take as well:

  • Restoring our traditional policy of sourcing immigrants from culturally compatible anglosphere countries. This means immigrants who are culturally much similar and who will more easily assimilate into our Kiwi culture.
  • Reviewing and terminating the visas of many of the groups mistakenly brought in over previous decades under the mistaken immigration policies.
  • Policies to encourage Kiwis living overseas to return home – the Kiwi diaspora is around 1 million people. This is a huge population which if encouraged to return would reinforce our demographics and national identity.

Many countries are already implementing policies like this with much success – the US grabs all the headlines, but Sweden and Denmark have quietly adopted voluntary repatriation programs, Hungary has effectively kept out migrants and encouraged Hungarians to return, and Israel through its law of return, maintains its demographics as well. More and more countries are adopting these policies as the problems of multiculturalism become too difficult to ignore, and New Zealand would be well-served by being an early adopter in this area – remaining a majority white nation with a stable national identity and good social cohesion will be a huge drawcard in future years. Nations that can manage it will increasingly come to be viewed as the most stable, peaceful, prosperous and desirable.

There is a huge opportunity here if we have the courage to seize it. All it will take is for us to throw off the blinkered blank-slate thinking that considers resistance to national suicide as racist, and instead resolve, as our ancestors did in two World Wars, to fight to defend our civilisation and way of life.

New Zealand is our home and we have a duty to protect it.

So I say enjoy the handbags and hissyfits at Waitangi – if Maori protesters want to throw dirt or dildos at the politicians can anyone really blame them?

We don’t know how lucky we are.
