The Opportunity:

At Reality Check Radio, we educate and inform Kiwis through the creative use of technology and media. As a Social Media Manager at RCR, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our message reaches and resonates with our audience. You will work closely with our editorial and marketing teams to coordinate social media strategies that challenge mainstream narratives and provide our audience with the full story so they can discern fact from fiction.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a creative thinker, skilled in crafting comments that resonate with our audience, and able to navigate challenging situations with humour and grace. You will also have some editing experience and understand how to build and convert a digital following.

This is a remote position with a 20-hour weekly commitment. It offers the opportunity to work alongside our dedicated marketing team. The initial contract duration is 3 months, with the potential for extension and further hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage RCR’s social media profiles (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Create, schedule, and post engaging content, ensuring brand consistency.
  • Write clear social media copy tailored to different platforms and audiences.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and accuracy in social media activities.
  • Generate and edit social-specific content, including videos, galleries, captions, memes, and stories.
  • Collaborate with editorial and marketing teams to plan and execute social content and campaigns.
  • Liaise with production teams to schedule show information and gather content.
  • Monitor social media for breaking news, engage with popular posts, and contribute to live coverage.
  • Manage comments and inboxes, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
  • Analyse social media data and trends, providing reports on engagement and reach.
  • Track key dates for timely content posting and event reminders.
  • Explore new networks and ways to expand RCR’s digital audience.
  • Provide strategic advice on navigating censorship and increasing content sharing.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, incorporating new techniques and strategies.

About You:

  • Experience as a Social Media Manager or similar role, aligning with the organisation's mission and vision.
  • In-depth knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and best practices, working collaboratively with the Head of Marketing and social media teams.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, including spoken and written English.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively, multitask, plan ahead on projects, meet tight deadlines and with an eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools and analytics, with a passion for social media and a good understanding of key trends.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to develop engaging content and the maturity and skills to write comments that resonate and navigate challenging comments with humour and grace.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

The Ideal Candidate Will Preferably Have:

  • Several years of social media and/or related digital marketing experience
  • Strategic experience on social platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram and Telegram.
