Professor Rob MacCulloch slammed the government’s Active Investor Plus visa, calling it a “con job” that lets wealthy investors buy residency by funnelling money into managed funds—without contributing skills or boosting the economy. He accused PM Chris Luxon of favouring big banks and recycling old political mates into top roles instead of bringing in fresh talent.
MacCulloch also blasted the government’s handling of the economy, pointing to rising youth unemployment, falling house prices, and a lack of real solutions. He warned that both National and Labour have left New Zealand stuck in economic stagnation, with no clear plan to move forward.
