The Opportunity:
Are you eager to make a meaningful impact in the media landscape in New Zealand? Join us at Reality Check Radio (RCR) as a Digital Content Creator.Â
We're seeking a skilled video editor to craft compelling stories for our audience by transforming recorded audio and audiovisual footage into engaging projects for distribution on our social media platforms and other channels. The role entails effective video sequence cutting, creation and integration of graphics and special effects, and delivery of the final product in various formats.Â
The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in post-production processes and a proven ability to visually narrate a story. Your role is crucial in seamlessly blending sight and sound to convey a cohesive narrative.
This is a remote position with a 20-hour weekly commitment. It offers the opportunity to work alongside our dedicated marketing team. The initial contract duration is 3 months, with the potential for extension and further hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the marketing and social media teams to engage and inform the audience through daily social media content production, video editing support, and ensuring high-quality and creative standards.
- Create, curate, produce, edit, and publish engaging digital content across RCR platforms.
- Work with digital and radio staff to develop and showcase quality storytelling.
- Utilize images, video, graphics, and audio effectively in multimedia storytelling.
- Contribute to the enhancement of RCR's website and social platforms.
- Monitor audience engagement with RCR stories using analytical tools.
- Participate in training and development activities as directed.
- Maintain high standards of quality, impartiality, independence, and accuracy.
- Produce diverse daily social media content types (e.g., screenshot+caption, link+caption, video+caption, photo compilation+caption) and assist with livestreams.
- Assist with video editing for filmed/audio-recorded social media content.
- Download and archive content when required, including inputting music, dialogues, graphics, and effects, creating rough and final cuts, and ensuring logical sequencing and smooth running.

- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Passion for social media and a good understanding of key trends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Extremely organised with an eye for detail.
- Ability to multitask, plan ahead on projects, and meet tight deadlines.
- Creative mind and storytelling skills.
- Demonstrated interest and skills in lifestyle and entertainment journalism.
- Sound editorial judgment and ability to act decisively under pressure.
- Excellent command of English and correct use of grammar and punctuation.
- Experience in still pictures, video and audio editing, and development and use of graphics.
The Ideal Candidate Will Preferably Have:
- Several years of video editing and/or related digital marketing experience
- Strategic experience on social platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram and Telegram.
- Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages (e.g. Avid Media Composer, Lightworks, Premiere, After Effects and Final Cut)
- Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio
- Thorough knowledge of timing, motivation and continuity
- Familiarity with special effects, 3D and compositing
